Auto-renewal disclosure checker: do your subscription terms say how to cancel?

Selling a subscription means telling people, before they pay, that it renews, how much it costs and how to cancel. ShipPatrol reads your pricing page for that information.

Why it matters

California's Automatic Renewal Law requires clear auto-renewal terms before purchase, affirmative consent and an easy way to cancel online. The US federal Restore Online Shoppers' Confidence Act sets similar rules for online subscriptions, and EU and UK consumer law expect the price and duration to be clear before the contract is made. Vague terms are also a reliable source of chargebacks.

How Patch checks

If your site sells something recurring, we read the pricing and checkout pages we can reach for wording about renewal ("renews automatically", "billed monthly until cancelled") and about cancelling.

How to fix it

  1. Next to the subscribe button on your pricing page, state the price, the billing period, that it renews automatically until cancelled, and how to cancel.
  2. Get explicit agreement to those terms before payment, for example with an unticked checkbox.
  3. Let people cancel online, as easily as they signed up, and send a confirmation email with the same terms.

Your own report goes further: it names the exact pages, services and settings Patch found on your site, and with a full report you get a fix prompt to paste into Lovable, Bolt or Cursor.

Where this applies

California and the US federal rules apply when you sell to US consumers. EU and UK consumer rules apply to sales to consumers there.
